The Winding World

From the ticking clocks of Jinx’s shop to the end of the show we are taken on a journey which arises from a wartime love affair. The story of George Alfred and Evelyn is darker than their previous shows, however it maintains the quirky humour and lust for life of Anna’s writing.

It’s a story of exile, of being different, like Charles Causley’s Martin Oxboy, whose story is woven into The Winding World. George and Evelyn’s love is innocent and pure but they come from different cultures. From their first dance to Glenn Miller’s ‘Moonlight Cocktail’, to Evelyn’s lonely dance in the mental hospital with several men called Jesus, the original love cannot be tainted.

The music comes from the now four-member Bagas Degol: Rick Williams, Dave Trahair, Dave Twomlow and Alan Burton. With a variety of instruments and skills, and a pre-recorded soundscape running throughout, we breathe the salty sea air over Porthcurno, walk across the wind-blown rifle range at Hayle and experience the white isolated space of hospitalised institution.

“The Winding World is charming, funny and so very very human.” Pauline Sheppard
