Emily Carding : 'Richard III'

An audience.
Anything can happen.
All the world is a stage. What part will you play?

Pushing the boundaries of Shakespearean Performance, Brite Theaterhave re-imagined Richard III as a bold and engaging one-woman show. The fourth wall has been utterly obliterated, as you the audience take on the roles of all the other characters at Richard’s party in this intimate, exciting and moving production. Let Richard entertain you…but will you survive?

Richard III (A One Woman Show) was created by director Kolbrun Bjort Sigfusdottir and performer Emily Carding during a theatre residency in Reykjavik, Iceland in November 2014 and premiered at Prague Fringe in May 2015, winning every award – unprecedented in the history of Prague Fringe.

The show went on to tour various Fringe Festivals throughout the UK, including Edinburgh Fringe where it earned rave reviews from critics and audiences and a coveted ‘Bobby’ award. Since then Richard III (A One Woman Show) has toured internationally, including Rome, Verona, Iceland and New York, all to high praise.

‘Emily Carding and Kolbrun Bjort Sigfusdottir’s adaptation of Richard III is a smart, sparse, stripped back version of the text built around Carding’s utterly compelling performance.’  **** The Stage

“I have seen several performances of Richard III; Laurence Olivier and Ian McKellen on film, and Kevin Spacey at the Old Vic, but Emily Carding’s portrayal of the king who murders his way to the English throne is in a league of its own.” ***** Broadway Baby

“a brilliantly simple but chillingly effective concept…it packs a powerful and subversive punch” **** The List

“Ms. Carding’s coolly psychotic king has a Tilda Swinton-esque flair.”  **** New York Times

“Its open audience involvement and relentless energy may make this Richard III most exciting Shakespeare currently in the city. This show could be a headlining act on the West End.”**** Theatre Bubble
