Sunday Night's In at the Acorn - "Film and debate"

"SHOWBOAT"

images

A slightly more light-hearted film this month to debate the ethics of. And it involves a word not used much these days, "miscegenation". As well as having the wonderful vocal talents of  Irene Dunne, Alan Jones and the fabulous Paul Robeson "Showboat" also had a more serious side to it. Miscegenation (the marriage between two different races) was illegal in most states in America at this time and this is addressed in the film. Have we moved forward since then? We still discriminate, quite often in an institutional way, "Equality and Diversity is quoted regularly, Brexit was as much about immigration as anything else. Where are we when it comes to racial acceptance?

Come along and watch the film and then stay to debate its place in the world.

          Santa and the Pirates

   (that don't want Christmas)

Santa and the Pirates Main page small

Children’s TV stars Callum Donnelly and Robin Hatcher are the stars of the popular hit CBeebies TV show ‘SPOTBOTS’ - they also joined Justin Fletcher this Summer in ‘Justin’s House’!

This loveable duo (two thirds of the manic trio ‘Three Half Pints’) are also the stars of this brand new adventure that is sure to leave the audience both spell bound and doubled up with mirth.

This amazing show features not only Santa, but an array of pirates with songs the kids will know and love. All this plus a great story AND you can also come and get a present from the big man himself after the performance! (There is also the chance to post any ‘Dear Santa’ letters).

Santa is having trouble this year as somebody has stolen his naughty list! When the Pirates of the ‘Good Ship Christmas Cheer’ offer to help him find it he must decide, with help from the children, who has been good and who has been naughty! But can you really trust a pirate?

With pieces of eight at stake, a lost Rudolf and Santa all at sea – will Christmas be able to go ahead this year at all?

Santa and the Pirates (who don’t want Christmas!) is ideal for families to get together this Christmas for some good traditional fun with a modern feel . Take a quick peek here....
